The Edgwarebury Hotel
Back in October of 2012 I photographed the wedding Kathryn and Andy at The Edgwarebury Hotel in Elstree. The Edgwarebury Hotel is set in some ten acres of natural woodland and boasts some truly exceptional views of London. Along with my second photographer and assistant Claire, we photographed Kathryn and Andy’s wedding from mid morning until early evening.
The Hotel has some lovely rooms some of which have been recently decorated making it ideal for some very stylish wedding photography. As can be seen from the photographs we were treated to some superb weather that day with beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine. Kathryn and Andy are a lovely couple and it was fantastic privilege to share their big day with them. As is usual with my wedding photography we started off by photographing the bride as she prepared for the big day ahead. I left Claire with Kathryn to photograph the finer details of the wedding, shoes, rings and flowers etc. This left me time to catch up with Andy and his best man as they got ready. I also found time to go outside and take photos of the marvelous setting and a few of the guests as they arrived.
When I photograph with and assistant we aim to capture all the special moments of a wedding. To that end during the ceremony I always try to position one of us at the front and the other at the end of the isle, that way hopefully nothing is missed. After the ceremony it was time for drinks and canopies in the very grand entrance hall. Then for the formal photographs on the balcony at the rear of the hotel with it’s fantastic views of London as a backdrop. It would have been nice to photograph everyone on the lawn but the grass was a bit soft that day from all the that week, so I decided against that idea.
So finally after all the formal stuff it was time for a bit of fun with the bride and groom. You really are spoilt for choice at this superb wedding venue as there are simply loads of fantastic backdrops for wedding photography. As can be seen from the examples below Kathryn and Andy were very photogenic and happy to follow my ideas and direction. I’m very conscious when photographing a wedding not to take too much time with the bride and groom, as it is after all a wedding and not a photo shoot. Therefore along with all the posed photos of the bride and groom alone we also try to capture some natural photos of the bride and groom enjoying the day with their friends and family.
So after much photograph taking it was time for the wedding breakfast and a welcome break. Kathryn and Andy very kindly paid for a meal for us which was excellent and came at just the right time. Eventually after the speeches, a few more shots at dusk and cake cutting it was time for the first dance. Here are a few examples of my favourite photos from this lovely wedding:
